| Printer Cables - Don't get ripped off |
|
|
Hello everyone,
When purchasing a new printer, you're likely aware that virtually all
printer manufacturers will NOT include the printer cable you need to connect the
printer to your computer (usually a USB 2.0 A/B cable.) Without that cable, you
can't utilize the printer you just purchased.
Now, deciding on where to purchase your cable from can be the difference
between spending around $25-$30 for one cable and spending anywhere from $2-$7
for one cable (including shipping.)
Many electronic retail outlets will include the USB 2.0 printer cables on the same webpage as the printer you are looking to buy as a "recommended accessory." This will imply you need that exact printer cable, even if it costs $25-$30 because it is gold-plated. This is NOT true - virtually any A/B printer cable will work, including ones you can get from places like the following for much cheaper:
MonoPrice.com
CompUSA.com (only when they have their free shipping promotions - usually
most major U.S. holidays, including Thanksgiving and Christmas.)
CompUSA.com is the place where I got my USB 2.0 A/B Printer cables (2 of
them in fact,) and I did it during one of their free shipping promotions, which
helped to save on the cost. Newegg.com will sometimes accept a free shipping
promotion from PayPal.com; otherwise, you will have to pay shipping, but the
final cost is still cheaper than you will find at most electronic retail
outlets.
I have never ordered from MonoPrice.com, having only found out about them
just the other day, but the reviews I've read about their printer cables are
pretty good, and they are the lowest prices I've seen anywhere, even after
factoring in the shipping costs.
Another benefit about Newegg and MonoPrice is that they both take
PayPal.
Therefore, don't be fooled by implications that you need those gold-plated
printer cables that are recommended on a printer product's home page at most
electronic retailer websites - that's simply not true, and really, there is
virtually no distinction in performance between those high-priced printer cables
and their cheaper-priced counterparts.
Hopefully, that will save you some money if you are looking for a new
printer (like I am) during this holiday season.
Take care and have a great day!
Sincerely,
Joe Chengery III
